Volunteer Opportunities
Exploratory Committees for Developing Community Art Ideas:
The Monroe Arts Council is a grassroots organization dedicated to enhancing the community through many forms of art.
Here are just a few visual, literary, and performing arts ideas that are bubbling to the surface of the MAC. You can develop an exploratory committee, pitch your ideas to the MAC Board, and have fun bringing these projects into the public eye! There is a lot of energy and excitement in the MAC and now is a great time to find a niche.
-
Arty Gras - Our biggest fundraiser every year.
Costumes, auction, live music, theater, food and tons of fun. Lots of
work, incredibly rewarding and it requires LOTS of volunteers. Through
this event we can fund great art projects, support our band and provide
scholarships to deserving students.
- Performing Arts Center - Be a part of the coalition of community leaders and organizations as they work to build a Performing Arts/Events/Conference Center right here in Monroe.
-
Grant Writers & Grant Researchers - Tread where others fear and use your writing skills to fuel art
concepts. Art councils rely on these skills to attract art
project funding. Write grants to art foundations like the National Endowment for the Arts and help unearth potential grant foundations from the comfort of your own Lazy-Boy at websites such as Philanthropy Northwest Grant Resources.
- Committee Chairs - Define your own visual, literary, and performing arts projects and use the MAC nonprofit status to springboard your ideas into the community. Examples include outdoor Movies Under the Moon at Lake Tye Park, community concerts, outdoor sculpture, author readings, theatrical plays and more.
- Murals Committee Members - Got your eyes set on a particular place for a mural? Do you have an interest in Downtown Revitalization through art? Art murals can enliven a city's historical district, aesthetically and economically enhance a city, and are aesthetic delights. Work with our local historical society and research regional muralists to define new subjects and sites.
-
Garden Tour Committee Members
- Love the landscape arts? Help MAC members select gardens, coordinate
volunteers, and organize media for this celebration of the living visual
arts in conjunction with the Garden Club in Monroe.
- Public Relations - Research ways to publicize and promote MAC projects. Help write press releases to drum up local and regional awareness of the MAC's community projects. Work with regional businesses to develop co-sponsorships for advertising including billboards.
- Web Site Design/Maintenance - If you have a strong graphic sense and an understanding of web design principles and tools MAC could use you to keep our web site attractive and current.
