Set in 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, Arthur Miller's The Crucible is a dramatic allegory of McCarthyism focusing on a town gripped by mass hysteria. After teenage girls, led by vengeful Abigail Williams, start a witch hunt to avoid punishment, a strict court convicts innocent villagers. Farmer John Proctor battles to save his wife from accusations, and ultimately must choose between false confession and death.
